FYI: The 2010 Census Is Recruiting Workers for $16/hour

A recruiter for the 2010 US Census stopped in my office today. He said they are looking for a few thousand workers on Cape Cod, nd over a million workers nation wide. The work is up to 40 hours per week worked, and will only be for a few weeks in April and into May.

The hourly pay rate is $16 per hour for between 25 and 40 hours per week worked. Census workers will "follow up" on un-returned census packages. The work schedule is weekends and evenings, because that is when most people will be home. The workers will be given the addresses that need following up. Workers visit homes personally in order to get the census forms completed.  The amount of hours a worker receives will depend on how effectively assigned tasks are completed.

Applicants have to pass a test. The tests are only given at specific times and locations and should be completed by the end of February. Notices of employment will not be sent out until late March.

If you want to apply, call 866-861-2010. You will be asked to enter your zip code so they can route your call to the correct headquarters. The headquarters on Cape Cod is in Hyannis.

You can take a practice test and get more information online at www.2010censusjobs.gov .
